Today I woke up for the first time in a long with no help from my alarm. I walked in the fresh fallen inch of snow fifteen minutes to my bus stop. Swiped my second semester pass and took a seat next to a homeless man, is it bad that I did that on purpose? Well anyway, I got off the bus and walked to class with about five extra minutes to kill. Now you may be wondering what I did with those five minutes, well truth be told I zoned out for two of them and found these tracks with the other three.
First up, the new goldfrapp song "A&E"
Second, it's People Press Play with "Hanging On"
Third it's Broadcast 2000 with "Don't Weigh Me Down"
Finally, it's Zero 7 featuring Sia Furler on vocals with "Destiny"

get up to get DOWN
So for all you hiphopotamuses and dancefloorasauruses heres a few tracks to get up and make an ass of yourself to. These songs serve one purpose, to promote sexual intercourse between two or more on a dancefloor, so go ahead...enjoy.
first up, a mashUP to get DOWN
Dunproofin' "Bootystyle" (Robyn vs. Teddybears)
rest will follow soon, but I just realized I'm going to be late to my humor and humanities class. shit.

hey LADIES;
mmmkay. now that i finally have some gusto and more importantly the time to sit and update this thing, here goes.
was browsing around a certain livejournal [hahahah livejournal] community and found the advance release of an album that i only distinguished as "we brave bee stings and all". going by how the cover interested me, i gave it a random download, knowing nothing of what i'd hear.
i use this process a lot in discovering new artists, and this time i think i really hit the nail on the head.
her name is thao nguyen & she performs with her band, the get down stay down. it took me a minute to think of who she reminded me of, the tinge in her voice seemed distinctly familiar.
& so i travelled back to the summer of 2005 when i went with my friend becca to see ani difranco play at interlochen, way way way up north. that day i heard the wonderful sounds of another female, erin mckeown.
experience the differences. and the similarities. either way, both tracks are beautiful.
thao nguyen & the get down stay down - beat [health, life & fired]
erin mckeown - bells & bombs [live 2/4/05]

quietly pour out like light.
a poem, written eons ago by rumi:
no room for form
on the night when you cross the street
from your shop and your house
to the cemetery
you'll hear me hailing you from inside
the open grave, and you'll realize
how we've always been together.
i am the clear consciousness-core
of your being, the same in
ecstasy as in self-hating fatigue.
that night, when you escape your fear of snakebite
and all irritations with the ants, you'll hear
my familiar voice, see the candle being lit,
smell the incense, the surprise meal fixed
by the lover inside all your other lovers.
this heart tumult is my signal
to you igniting in the tomb.
so don't fuss with the shroud
and the graveyard dust.
those get ripped open and washed away
in the music of our final meeting.
and don't look for me in human shape,
i am inside your looking.
no room for form with love this strong.
beat the drum and let the poets speak.
this is the day of purification for those who
are already mature and initiated into what love is.
no need to wait until we die!
there's more to want here than money
and being famous and bites of roasted meat.
now, what shall we call this new sort of gazing house
that has opened in our town where people sit
quietly and pour out their glancing
like light, like answering?
flash foward to 2004. tv on the radio are just emerging in the [pseudo-]indie music scene. their song "staring at the sun" appears to be a modern-day interpretation of the verse:
cross the street from your storefront cemetary
hear me hailing from inside and realize
i am the conscience clear
in pain or ecstacy
and we were all weaned my dear
upon the same fatigue
staring at the sun
oh my own voice
cannot save me now
standing in the sea
it's just one more breath
and then down i go
your mouth is open wide
the lover is inside
and all the tumults done
collided with the sign
you're staring at the sun
you're standing in the sea
your body's over me
note the trees because
the dirt is temporary
more to mine than fact face
name and monetary
beat the skins and let the
loose lips kiss you clean
quietly pour out like light
like light, like answering the sun
you're staring at the sun
[be what you will
and then thrown down your life
oh it's a damned fine game
and we can play all night]
you're standing in the sea
your mouth is open wide
you're trying hard to breathe
the water's at your neck
there's lightning in your teeth
your body's over me
on the night when you cross the street
from your shop and your house
to the cemetery
you'll hear me hailing you from inside
the open grave, and you'll realize
how we've always been together.

songmeanings.net's page for staring at the sun alerted me of the similarities.
