the new nin instrumental album, ghosts I-IV is...interesting, to say the least. not sure if i like what i've heard so far [I-II], but the tracks near the middle of II are pretty neat.

first things first, don't get it twisted; i don't watch american idol [however,
i think we can all agree on this being the best movie of 2003].
anyways. i was watching ellen the other day and this kid that got
kicked off after two weeks was on performing his song.
at first, of course, i was intrigued by his physical beauty, but once
the song was over & ellen presented him with $8,000 worth of music gear +
studio time, i became intrigued with his story.

josiah leming hails from tennessee, where at the age of 17 moved out
of his parents' house to tour & live out of his car, trying to make a name
for himself in the south.

this year, he tried out for american idol, made it past the initial audition,
&lasted two weeks after that, before being kicked off because he fumbled on
a solo.

that only gave him the recognition that i feel that he deserves. 1,352,359
views on his myspace page since his stint on AI, interviews with MTV News,
pre-producing an album... the list is just beginning to grow, i'm sure.

Today I woke up for the first time in a long with no help from my alarm. I walked in the fresh fallen inch of snow fifteen minutes to my bus stop. Swiped my second semester pass and took a seat next to a homeless man, is it bad that I did that on purpose? Well anyway, I got off the bus and walked to class with about five extra minutes to kill. mmmkay. now that i finally have some gusto and more importantly the time to sit and update this thing, here goes.

was browsing around a certain livejournal [hahahah livejournal] community and found the advance release of an album that i only distinguished as "we brave bee stings and all". going by how the cover interested me, i gave it a random download, knowing nothing of what i'd hear.

i use this process a lot in discovering new artists, and this time i think i really hit the nail on the head.

her name is thao nguyen & she performs with her band, the get down stay down. it took me a minute to think of who she reminded me of, the tinge in her voice seemed distinctly familiar.

& so i travelled back to the summer of 2005 when i went with my friend becca to see ani difranco play at interlochen, way way way up north. that day i heard the wonderful sounds of another female, erin mckeown.

experience the differences. and the similarities. either way, both tracks are beautiful.

Lupe Fiasco is an intelligent rapper whose lyrics are on a mission. His way with rhyme is unsurpassed currently, and its a great shame he will be retiring after releasing LupEND, his next and final album. I hear a super group is in the works between him, Kanye, and Pharrell which should satisfy my Lupe fix for awhile.
